Make Your Own Summertime Hanging Baskets

I love bright flowers on my porch in the summertime.  To me, it creates my own private oasis to be enjoyed as much as possible.  What I don’t like, however, is the high price of a blooming flower basket.  When you’re cutting corners, it hardly makes sense to spend $50 on a hanging basket that will be gone at the end of the season, so why not make your own instead?

Free Personalized VeggieTales Song

If your kids love VeggieTales as much as mine do, you’ll want to consider taking advantage of this free offer. You can have a VeggieTales song with your child’s name in it created in a matter of minutes. The song can then be downloaded completely for free. You will never be asked for a dime.

How can they do this you ask? Simple. They are counting on the fact that you will love the song with your child’s name in it so much that you will want to order a CD version of the song. Maybe you’ll like it so much you will order a CD for each of the children in your family. For me personally, I’ll just stick with the free downloadable song. I’m a cheapskate that doesn’t like to spend money if I don’t have to.

Have a Business? Print Your Own Business Cards

It seems as though most people believe if you have a business, you have infinite amounts of money to spend on supporting that business.  For that reason or another, business items tend to be very expensive and can kill a fledgling business’ budget.  One way you can save quite a bit of money is by doing it yourself when you can, and when it comes to business cards, doing it yourself is easy and inexpensive.

Free Sample: Tide Pods

If you do laundry then you’ll appreciate this free sample. Currently Tide is offering a free sample of its new product-Tide Pods. These little pods do three things. They are a detergent, a stain remover, and a color brightener. The pods eliminate the need to measure out your detergent. Just grab one and toss it in the washing machine.

I admit that I make my own laundry detergent from Borax, washing soda, and liquid castile soap, but I do take advantage of free offers when I find them. I was always partial to Tide before I made the switch to homemade laundry detergent.

Cut Dryer Sheets in Half

Another option: ditch the dryer sheets altogether.

If you are looking to save a few bucks, take a look at some of the things you use that come in proportioned sizes.  Many times, you don’t need to use as much as the manufacturer suggests, and by cutting down the amount you use, you save money and waste.  Dryer sheets are a perfect example of this.  Unless you live in a very dry climate, you can usually get away with far less than the standard size sheets.  Even in our very dry area, except in the dead of winter, I can use half a dryer sheet and still get desirable results.

Free Sample: Emergency Purified Drinking Water

I am very excited about this free sample. You can get a free sample of MREdepot’s emergency purified drinking water packets. These packets have a shelf life of 5 years verses an 18 month shelf life for water bottles sold in grocery stores. After watching the series Survivorman starring Les Stroud, I’m all for getting prepared for an emergency. I bet Les would have welcomed these packets in his supply bag before becoming stranded on one of those desert islands.

The emergency purified drinking water packets work to prolong the life of water because they are sealed inside Mylar packaging. Plastic water bottles contaminate the drinking water when the chemicals from the plastic leak out. According to MREdepot, the military use Mylar water pouches for this very reason.

Live with Your Parents

I would not necessarily like to do this, but then again I don’t really have the choice as my parents live far away from where I work and want to establish myself. If they did live in Minneapolis or a big city like NYC or SF, I would have definitely moved in with them. Hey, I could do with some extra money and this is really a big money-saver.

Remember, that although you would be living with your parents and saving money, the responsibility on your part would be to save up money and look to move out. That means that one needs to be wise about spending decisions and to use the credit card sensibly above all. Credit card debt is a killer and paying the minimum payment and the interest accumulated forces a person into credit card slavery.

Don't Buy More Computer Than You Need

I don’t know about you, but I sure have a hard time with the concept of “less is more” sometimes, especially when it comes to new technology.  I used to be a gamer, and at one point lived with two roommates – our living room was bare but for the five computers propped up on conference tables, and two of them were mine.  Back then, I bought the best computer I could afford, and I used it too.  Now, my tastes have changed and I no longer need a high-end machine, but that doesn’t stop me from thinking I can’t live without one.
